Zeting Mei

University of Sheffield, PhD student

In July 2023 Zeting passed his viva on ‘Design, fault analysis, and health condition monitoring of permanent magnet machines’. He has now started work as a motor control engineer with Sailvan Times Co Ltd in Shenzhen, China, working on the development of e-bike motor controllers. We wish Zeting all the very best in his new career and thank him for his valuable contribution to the project.

Dr Chandula Wickramarachchi

University of Sheffield Post-Doctoral Research Associate

In July 2023 Chandy started a new job with Baleen Labs, an aerospace consultancy company based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her role as a Data Scientist will involve work to improve operations, maintenance and manufacturing issues for small jets. We would like to wish her all the very best in her new adventure and thank her for her excellent contribution to our project.

Dr Tina Dardeno

University of Sheffield Post-Doctoral Research Associate

From April 2023, Tina will continue as a PDRA in the Dynamics Research Group at the University of Sheffield, working on the EPSRC-Funded follow-on project, ROSEHIPS. We thank Tina for all her efforts and contributions to the project and look forward to continuing to work with her on closely associated research in Sheffield.

Giuliano Pretti

Durham University/Ørsted, PhD student

At the end of the Prosperity Partnership project, and after completing his PhD,  Giuliano remained at Durham University taking up a Post-Doctoral Research Associate post on a new £1.4M EPSEC-funded follow-on project –  “Offshore Burial Cable: How Deep Is Deep Enough?” We wish him all the best and send our thanks for all the hard work and commitment that he contributed.

Tingna Wang

University of Sheffield/Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, PhD student

Tingna passed her PHD viva on ‘Fibre-optic Integrated Sensors for Blade Structural Health Monitoring’ in January 2023 and has returned to China to take up a post-doctoral research position in the Research Division on Structural Health Monitoring and Vibration Control in the Department of Bridge Engineering, at Tongji University. We wish her all the very best for the future in her new career.

Dr Ximeng Wu

University of Sheffield/Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, PhD student

Ximeng completed his PhD at the University of Sheffield in August 2020 and in October he began work as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate on the Prosperity Partnership project. His work was focused on novel control strategies, control system modelling and controller design for wind turbine applications. In May 2023 Ximeng took up a new post with Siemens Gamesa working as a generator control engineer at their facilities in Brande, Denmark. He will be developing advanced control strategies for industry-leading permanent magnet direct drive generators for wind turbines.

Rajesh Kumar

University of Sheffield PhD Student

In November 2022, Rajesh commenced a new job working for Alvier Mechatronics as a Senior Electrical Machine Design Engineer. Initially he was based in Newcastle for a 6-month period and then moved to their facilities in Hoganas, Sweden, where he will be working on the development of electrical machines for eDrive Systems. We wish Rajesh all the very best in his new role and hope he enjoys life in Sweden.

Dr Mohamed Mohamed

University of Sheffield Post-Doctoral Research Associate

In September 2022, Mohamed started his new career as a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Central Lancashire.
We would like to thank Mohamed for the work he did in the short time he was with us on the Prosperity Partnership project and wish him all the very best in his new position.

Dr Petrica Taras

University of Sheffield Post-Doctoral Research Associate

In September 2022, Petrica left the project to take up a post with one of our industrial sponsors, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, working in Brande, Denmark. He will be a member of the team that focuses on new technology development and improvements for existing products.
We are very grateful for all of Petrica’s work and contribution to the Prosperity Partnership project and wish him good luck in his new career.

Maria Zougrou

Durham University Technician

Maria was appointed to a 12-month temporary technician post on the Prosperity Partnership project in August 2021. Following the completion of that contract she was successful in being awarded a full-time permanent contract in the Engineering Department. We would like to thank Maria for her work on the project and wish her well in her new role.

Tianyi Liu

University of Sheffield PhD Student

In May 2022, Tianyi began work as a senior research engineer in electronic control for the Research Institute of Electrical Technology in the Midea Industrial Technology Group in Shanghai. He is responsible for the control systems design (mainly software) and corresponding algorithm development or improvement for PMSM products.
We greatly appreciate all the important work that Tianyi contributed to the project and wish him well in his new career.

Matthew Jones

University of Sheffield PhD Student

Matt began a new role in the Dynamics Research Group at the University of Sheffield in April 2022. He is now working as a research associate under Dr Tim Rogers on a two year contract. The research is concerned with Dynamic System and Load Identification within a package of work titled Autonomous Modelling Solutions for Operational Structural Dynamic Systems.
We would like to thank Matt for all his hard work and efforts on the project and wish him good luck in his new career.

Dr Richard Williams

Durham University Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Richard completed his contract on the Prosperity Partnership project in February 2022 but has remained at Durham, working on another research project which involves the testing of a prototype steam turbine.
We would like to thank Richard for all his excellent work on Work Package 3 and wish him good luck in his new career.

Tarun Choudhary

University of Hull Post-Doctoral Research Software Developer

Tarun began work as a Software Engineer at Alten Ltd in Derby in January 2022. His new role involves the development of Finite Element Analysis and 3D CAD Geometry Software, which will allow him to apply some of the skills and knowledge that he gained over the 3 years he was working on the Prosperity Partnership project. He has also taken up a visiting academic position at the University of Hull to allow him to continue to be involved with the application of VOX-FE.
We would like to thank Tarun for all his incredible work and wish him good luck in his new career.

Dr Yanhua Liu

University of Hull Post-Doctoral Research Associate

In February 2022 Yanhua took up a new post as a lecturer in the School of Electrical Engineering of Shandong University, Jinan, China. Her research direction is focused on renewable energy advanced control and fault diagnosis, including data-driven based floating wind turbine load reduction and  fault diagnosis, wave energy optimal control. We would like to thank Yanhua for all her excellent work on the Prosperity Partnership project and wish her good luck in her new career.

Dileep Kumar Kana Padinharu

University of Sheffield/Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, PhD student

After passing his PhD in October 2021, Dileep took up a post in January 2022 with Dyson in Malmesbury. As a Senior Motor Drives Engineer (motor research) he will be working on designs for vacuum cleaners applications. We wish Dileep all the very best in his new career.

Jin Xu

University of Sheffield/Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, PhD student

Jin Xu started a new role as a motor control engineer with McLaren in Woking in September 2021. Jin will be working on the development of motor control strategies for high-performance inverters. Many thanks for your great contribution to the project and all the very best in your new job.

Sumeet Singh Thakur

University of Sheffield/Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, PhD student

After completing his thesis, Sumeet took up a new position in October 2021 as Innovation Engineer in Power Electronics with Siemens Digital Industries in Congleton. He will be working on the design and testing of novel innovative power electronics technologies and networking with universities and UK technical institutes to leverage knowledge and experience. We thank Sumeet for al his excellent work on the project and wish him all the best in his new career.

Dr Yu Wang

University of Sheffield Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Yu worked on the project as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Sheffield for just under two years. In October 2021 he returned to China to take up an Associate Professor post at Fudan University in Shanghai. He will be working on research for renewable energy power systems. Many thanks and good luck in your new role.

Marcus Haywood-Alexander

University of Sheffield PhD Student

In July 2021, Marcus started as a Research Associate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield. His role is to design, develop, build, manage and maintain the experimental system for measuring the physical twin as part of a new Digital Twins for High Value Engineering (DTHIVE) project. He is managing a team of peers to perform experiments, having created an experimental tracking system to record and keep track of all tests with relation to the database.
We would like to thank Marcus for all his excellent work in the department and wish him good luck in his new career.

Jaime Maravi-Nieto

University of Sheffield/Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, PhD student

After completing his PhD at the University of Sheffield, Jamie returned to Spain. In February 2021 he began working as a research engineer for AKKA Technologies, leaders in aerospace, railways, energy and automotive engineering. He is working on onshore wind and hydro generator projects and is delighted that his role involves a continued partnership with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. We send all our very best wishes to Jaime in his new position.

Dr Tao Wang

University of Sheffield Post-Doctoral Research Associate

In August 2020 Tao began his new career taking up the post of Associate Professor at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China. We thank him for all his efforts on the Prosperity Partnership project and wish him all the very best in his new position.

Dr Donatella Zappalá

Durham University Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Donatella left her research post on the project in June 2020 to take up a new academic position. She is now an Assistant Professor in the Wind Energy Group of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Technology in Delft, Netherlands. We thank her for all the contributions she made to the project and wish her all the very best in her new career.

Dr Liren Huang

University of Sheffield Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Liren left his post on the project at the end of April 2020 to take up a new position as a Senior Engineer with Midea, based in Shanghai, China. Everyone on the project wishes Liren all the very best with his new career and thanks him for his significant contribution over the two years he was with us.

Dr Shaoshen Xue

University of Sheffield Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Shaoshen was the first Post-Doctoral Research Associate to be appointed to the project in the EMD group at the University of Sheffield. He contributed a great deal to the project over a period of more than two years and we wish him much success in his new role. In January 2020 he joined Motor Design Ltd in Wrexham as a Senior Research Engineer.
In September 2021 Shaoshen took up a new position with the Siemens Gamesa team in Sheffield working as a permanent magnet specialist.

Dr Kartik Chandrasekhar

University of Sheffield Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Kartik joined the project in October 2018 working as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the Dynamics Research Group at the University of Sheffield. In December 2019 he moved on take up a post as a Senior Research Engineer with Perpetuum, in Southampton. We thank him for all his hard work and contributions to the project and wish him all the very best in his new career.

Matthew Fenton-Jones

University of Sheffield/Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, PhD student

From November 2019, Matt has taken up a full-time position with Nexperia in a Graduate Product Qualification role. He intends to complete his MPhil in the coming months. We wish him all the very best and thank him for his efforts on the project.
